Markell Honors Camp for Children with Cancer

CLAYTON- Governor Jack Markell joined State Senate Bruce Ennis and State Representative Quinn Johnson in signing a proclamation recognizing Kay’s Kamp as the first oncology camp in the state.   Kay’s Kamp is named in honor of Kaylyn Warren, who died from leukemia in 2007 at the age of 19.  It was her dying wish that a summer camp be opened for children with cancer, and this year, her dream will come true for the first time.

Markell thanked and praised Bill and Laurie Warren, parents of Kaylyn and founders of the camp.  “How much internal strength it took so shortly after the loss of your daughter is remarkable,” said Markell to the Warrens. “I don’t know if there’s a higher calling to create a place like this to help others. We talk a lot about heroes, but I think that’s often misplaced, either when people are talking about athletes or political figures. To me the heroes are people like Kaylyn.”
