Markell Honors State Troopers For Their Sacrifice

SMYRNA – Gov. Jack Markell today praised the fallen members of the Delaware State Police who have given their lives while protecting the public. He also thanked the family members of the fallen troopers for supporting their loved ones while the troopers worked to keep our streets and neighborhoods safe.

“Today we honor the state troopers – the heroes -- who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting Delaware,” Markell said during the State Police memorial service today at St. Polycarp’s Catholic Church in Smyrna. “As we look back to honor these troopers today, let us also look ahead to the future. Let us pledge today to work together to build the kind of state these heroes wanted for their children.”

Markell also thanked the members of the State Police for the service they provide every day to the state.

“Last week while we were enjoying Thanksgiving with our families and friends, members of the State Police patrolled our roads to make sure the holiday was a safe one,” the Governor said. “The same will be true later this month during our traditional holiday and new year's celebrations. Protecting the public's safety is one of state government's most fundamental responsibilities. It is the men and women of the State Police who play a leading role in helping us fulfill that responsibility. I want to thank all of you for the risks you take and sacrifices you make every day.”
