December 28, 2009 Governor Jack and First Lady Markell: Delaware Lost Leading Light in ArtsDelaware Governor Jack Markell and First Lady Carla Markell today mourned the passing of former Delaware Division of the Arts Director Peggy Amsterdam. Amsterdam led the Division at a time of significant expansion in the state's support of the arts before moving in 2000 to lead the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and expand its impact at the local, regional, and national levels in arts advocacy, research, and promotion. "Peggy was an important voice in the Delaware arts for many years. She recognized the arts as an important part of Delaware cultural heritage and understood that the arts create jobs and attract economic development to our state," the Governor said. |
