Markell Will Nominate Wilmington Attorney Eric Davis To The Court of Common Pleas

Davis brings breadth of litigation experience to the Court

WILMINGTON – Governor Jack Markell announced Wednesday that he will nominate Wilmington attorney Eric M. Davis to serve as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas.

“Eric has litigated significant cases in Delaware and in courts around the country,” Markell said.  “As a leading commercial litigator and corporate restructuring specialist, Eric can bring a breadth of experience to the Court of Common Pleas if he is confirmed.  The state is lucky that it has citizens like Eric willing to devote their substantial talents to serving the people of Delaware.  I have no doubt that Eric will continue the proud tradition of excellence in the Delaware courts."

Davis received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his law degree from Emory University.  Davis began practicing law with Miles & Stockbridge, before joining the Wilmington office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.  As a partner with Skadden, Davis represents corporations in commercial disputes in federal and state courts in Delaware and throughout the country.  The focus of his practice has been on corporate governance issues and other disputes arising from bankruptcy and corporate reorganizations.  Davis also maintains an active pro bono practice, and has represented individuals in, among other things, custody matters and landlord-tenant disputes, including a recent landlord-tenant dispute that was considered en banc by the Delaware Supreme Court.  Davis is currently in charge of pro bono matters for Skadden's Wilmington office.  He also serves in a leadership role as Campaign Chairman of the Professionals and Individuals Group for the United Way of Delaware.

“I have always hoped to have the honor of serving as a judge," Davis said.  "I am honored to be nominated today by Governor Markell.  The Court of Common Pleas is frequently the only point of contact that Delaware citizens will have with our court system.  If I am confirmed, I will work tirelessly to contribute to the court's proud tradition of fairness and justice."
