Markell Asks Nina Bawa to Serve as New Castle County Register of Wills

Taxpayers will Save as Bawa Pledges to Keep the Chief Deputy Spot Unfilled

Wilmington, DE – Governor Jack Markell asked Nina Bawa today to serve out the rest of Diane Clarke Streett’s term as New Castle County Register of Wills. Streett was nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate to serve on the Delaware Superior Court. She was last elected Register in 2006 and her current term expires in January of 2011.

“Nina is a top talent. She’s done years of quality service in the office and really stepped up to lead after Judge Streett’s confirmation,” Markell said. “This office, which supports the probate function of the Chancery Court, is largely about effectively serving those who have lost loved ones and guiding them through the nuts and bolts of the probate process.  Nina is an effective manager who will thrive in that role.  Anyone who works with that office can feel good knowing that she is in charge.”

Bawa has served as the Office’s Chief Deputy since 2005. She is a graduate of the University of Delaware and holds a Masters of Science in Public Administration from Wilmington University.  During her time in the office, Bawa has implemented new technology to increase efficiency and improve the integrity of the records in the office. She has pledged not to fill the Deputy position while she serves as Register, creating cost savings for taxpayers.

“I want to thank the Governor for this opportunity to serve in a bit different capacity and thank my co-workers for doing as much or more with less,” Bawa said. “We have worked and continue to work to make the probate process easier for anyone who needs it and more cost-effective for taxpayers. We can and will continue to make progress on each of those goals.”
